Marina del Rey, California, March 18, 2008 – Dr. Detlef Appenzeller, the school director of the historic Gymnasium Bayreuther Strasse in Wuppertal, Germany, was in Los Angeles on a friendship visit and conducted a meeting with Dr. Zaven Khatchaturian, chairman of the Armin T. Wegner Society of USA and sculptor Alice Melikian, who had completed Wegner’s bronze sculpture in 2006. The statue had been presented to the city of Wuppertal, on the occasion of the Wegner’s 120th birth anniversary. Dr. Appenzeller handed Alice Melikian a gift and a thank you note from the Mayor of Wuppertal, Mr. Peter Jung, and presented photographs depicting her work smartly situated between monuments of the two world wars in the lobby of the Gymnasium Bayreuther Strasse.
